How WordPress Changed My Life

WordPress, as a software entity, has probably not changed my life a whole lot, to be honest. I haven’t seen very much traffic (earlier this year, my blog on a high visit day had 22 visitors!), But I am hoping that will change after WordCamp when I meet a bunch of folks who love it as much as I do.

I’ll admit, I’ve tried other blogging providers, and keep coming back to WP. I guess it’s the power and the reputation. When you use WordPress, you’re a blogging grownup. But seriously, can you see building a website entirely on Blogger? Or the blog chunk on MySpace? I can’t. Not one that will be taken seriously, anyway. No, I like my WordPress.

It has provided me with an entre into the professional blogosphere area.  Although learning the rules of the game is like learning the rules of Fizbin, I have learned a little about RSS feeds, I’ve learned that a widget is not a plug in (unless it’s Tuesday,) but plug ins may include widgets, I’m trying to figure out how to work bugs out when themes don’t run and as a result of reading other WP entries on WP, I’ve become a much better website builder in general.

I’m a business coach and a trainer, so I deal with a lot of solopreneurs who don’t have time or money to hire someone to create their online brand (myself included). WordPress allows us as a group to present a more professional face to the rest of the world belying our ingenuousness and ignorance until we find the time to catch up with all the latest and greatest.

On my Living in Left Field Blog, I teach folks how to level the playing field and create a plan for manifesting their special dreams. WordPress is definitely one of my more often recommended tools to get their toes into the eBusiness pool and I’ve never had it let me down. Knowing I’m recommending something I can count on increases my own self-esteem and confidence as a business consultant AND as a solopreneur working to do what I teach others to do.

Work well, Play well, Be Well

Yes, WordPress, as far as I am concerned, is the ultimate blogging platform because it is so configurable. Your next step, once you have found your blogging feet and are comfortable with it, is to host your own blog as then you will be showing people that you are serious about what you are doing.

I have just started with my own hosted WordPress and am just feeling my way. Thank you for your kind words. I look forward to trading comments with you in the future.

My mistake, I didn’t realize this one was self hosted. May I make another suggestion? I notice that you are using the default permalinks setting which is fine but it isn’t exactly SEO friendly and the url, in this particular post, ends with p=115. Were you to have /%postname%/ in the ‘Custom Structure’ it would show the title of you post. Before doing this I suggest you use Deans Migration Plugin so that you safely change your permalink structure without breaking the old links to your website.
