Perspective, Ain’t It Grand?

I’m down in Portland, visiting my daughter, getting ready to attend WordCampPDX tomorrow. And life keeps getting in the way! I was a little peeved at the interruptions – first hitting a deer last Thursday, then driving to Portland (4.5 hours) only to find my daughter at the Emergency Room with an abcessed tooth that had the left side of her face looking like she’d snorted a balloon and forgot to deflate it first and in horrible straits.  Good thing, Mommy was there to “make it all better”. Then the final blow, on the way home from the ER, got sideswiped (same bumper same car) at an intersection.

But it made me stop and think – why was all this happening to me? I think I’ve figured it out.  I have had no life but this business thing for the last 8 months. EVERYTHING had to do with that; I ate, slept, planned, breathed the business. I teach living a balanced life and here I was doing the exact opposite. Time to stop and smell the roses. Thought needs to be given to the other facets of my life – my health, my friends and family, my art and hobbies. I realized I had not read a non-business related paragraph in almost a year! (And I love to read for fun). I haven’t done a painting that wasn’t commissioned in about as long. Shame on me! There needs to be time created here.  When you focus too much on only one facet, the sparkle of the whole jewel gets lost.

I encourage you, stop whatever it is you’re doing (unless it’s something really fun!) and take 10 or 15 minutes to just see what else needs attention.  For me it’s my relationship, my darling 4-legged son, my experience in Portland just having fun with my family and WordCamp and not thinking about all the things I should be doing and am notl

Until next time,

Work well, play well, be well

Deborah, life is short and you just have to take the time to see what is happening around you before it passes by and you missed all the beautiful things that are happening. Business is important but you need to take a break once in awhile. You will probably find that after every break even things that may have been holding you back with business matters may become clearer, at least one would hope so.
