Don’t you just love it when an offhand comment sends your mind off on a real adventure? I had that happen just a few hours ago and had to share the journey with all of you. This evening I was listening to a telecall with Shawn Driscoll and Linda Welch, one of the preview calls for the Launch My Dreams Business School event coming up in October in Los Angeles when Shawn said that one of the 3 Keys for Business Success is to be unique. Okay, got that part, but then she mentioned that you need to understand what’s in your Secret Sauce, that thing you do that nobody else can or does do.
That smell of smoke in the air is from the speed the wheels in my head started turning. I immediately got a flash of a chef tasting a sauce (I love watching Iron Chef on Food Network so the image is easy to conjure)to see if it needs any special seasoning, or even to see if it’s acceptable. The chef’s educated tastebuds can tell if the sauce is too spicy, too sweet, too sour or too bland for public consumption. So can we as entrepreneurs concoct a message or product that is too “out there”, too saccharine, too unpalatable or too bland for the public to consume. The real task is to find something with just the right bite, just the right aftertaste and just the right appeal to make the consumer love it, get enraptured by it and want more and more or, at the very least, to repeat the experience. I can’t wait to listen to Shawn’s next call on “How to Create a Signature Program and turn a Flood of Ideas into a Steady Stream of Income”. and see what sorts of jewels await me. There’s still time to sign up for this free call. Go quick!
I love the metaphoric imagery of the secret sauce for your core message. To discover the ingredients in your recipe, ask yourself what you do that is uniquely YOU, what is it that nobody else does or could do if they wanted to. For me, it’s approaching left brain problems with right brain solutions. I’m also incredibly good at finding existing resources and tweaking them till they can be used in ways even their designers never imagined. The other ingredients to my secret sauce will remain secret unless you’d like to work with me in a coaching relationship. (I’m now accepting applications for three slots beginning in late August. Just send me an email at coaching@deborahbeatty.com.
I’d really like to see comments from some of you regarding your recipe for your own secret sauce. C’mon – give it a go!
