You Have To Know What To Ask To Get What You Want

Recently I had a question on a product I had purchased.  But after 15 minutes of being frustrated trying to explain what it was I was asking, I finally told the customer support person on the other end of the line what it was I wanted to do, why I wanted to do it and asked what I should ask if I want to do it again sometime.

Made me think. So many times, we’re told to ask for what you want. The “Law of Attraction”  tells us to concentrate on what we want to bring it to us.  But the thing that is confounding most folks I speak with is how to be sure that what you’re asking for is what you want.

One of the basic tenets of asking for what you want is being clear about the end result. Here’s what I mean:

Close your eyes (well, after you read this part) and imagine you’re talking with your Faerie Godmother. She has in her hand a wand that will grant any one wish you have, but only one. What do you say to her, how do you phrase the question to be as precise as possible, given that this is something you have wanted forever and now have to figure out how to ask for it so you ensure you get it? Hard, isn’t it?

So let’s try a little trick of mine.  Imagine you already have that which you crave the most; whatever that is. As I cover in DreamBuilding 101, until you have a grasp on what it is you want that is solid enough to start seeing where it doesn’t quite satisfy all your desires, it isn’t real to you and remains at arms’ length.

Getting really clear on the end result you desire from asking a question is a process just like anything else. I now use the following mental checklist when asking questions.

1. What do I want to do? (Desired result)

2. Why do I want to do it (Need)

3. What I’ve already done (Experience)

4. What is stopping me (Details)

5. Can I replicate it again with the information I receive?

My checklist has come in handy more often than I can tell you.
